French Cave Boots

Postby Andy Shoun » Oct 18, 2005 11:59 am

A little help please. There was a nice long thread on the old discussion board about some French boots. I'm looking for specific information about the manufacturer and model. (I have a friend in France for the next month and he will buy a pair for me if I can tell him what I want) Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

Andy,

I think you are talking about Joop Boots. Mark Joop sells them. That's about all I know about them. He can probably tell you much more. He's in the Members Manual.

Marion Smith has an old pair of French caving boots in his garage; you might drop him a line as well altho I don't think he knew much about them (they were abandoned at his place some time ago, I think...).

Yep, you're talking about the Mark Joop boots:

They're great. I just got my first pair and already they're the best caving boots I've ever used.

Look up Mark Joop in the member's manual, drop him an email. He'll ask you to trace your socked foot on a piece of paper. Fax the paper to him, he'll measure you for European sizing, then when the boots come in you send him the money and he sends you the boots. Simple!

Got my boots from Mark yesterday. They are awesome! He sent me a pair of 43/44 because my feet are wide (EE) and they fit pretty well, especially with wetsuit booties for socks. He measured my foot tracing and had suggestions for fitting my 10.5EE feet to the European system.
Definitely worth the money, Mark is really doing the American caving community a favor by importing these Mic Canyon boots.

How much money are we talking about cause I'm in the market for some new boots.

How long did you wait from ordering to receiving them?

I paid $55 plus 8 shipping to Kansas. The price will probably vary depending on how well the dollar does against the franc/euro. I had to wait a month or so because Mark was between orders.

Got mine last month and they are great! Very sturdy, grip very well on wet rock, mud and everything else. I put them through a lot of abuse on my last trip and they survived. And they are easy to swim with as well.
