Two of my students went ahead and bought the 14 array Duos... My present headlamp pales by comparison where as before it was the brightest one. It is definitely more brighter than the 8 and stands to reason... more bulbs. You won't get a BEAM of light as with something like the sten but I'd weigh the costs between the two and look at battery life comparisons as well.

I can't tell you comparatively 'cause I went straight to the 14 upgrade. But I can say the upgrade was easy and I have zero complaints. Beam dispersal is nice and even and the available settings are just right.

Bottom line: It was worth it.

Also, I've got a Tikka XP for backup that cost me $38 and I can't say enough good things about it. Even light, lens slides over to give a spot beam which is almost Sten-like even though it's only around 1 watt, adjustable tilt, multiple settings. Just a great light that is never in my pack because I'm using it at night feeding pets and fiddling around with outdoor chores.

In my pre-Stenlight days I had two of the 14LED arrays. I bought a really bright 1 watt LED light from On Rope 1 and gave the 14 LED rigs to Rod Horrocks and Marc Ohms, caving buddies and cave specialists at Wind Cave Nat'l Park in SD. When I say them at Convention last year they said the lights were just perking along, bright as ever.

Of course, now I have a Stenlight.

I'm such a gear whore.

Check out these previous threads....

I have a Duo 8 too - it's now semi-retired. (I upgraded to the Princeton Tec Apex last year.) If you really like your Duo you could upgrade to the 14 LED module, but if you're thinking of getting a Stenlight anyway you might as well just go for that. I don't have a Stenlight myself, but if all the posts about them are to be believed - they're probably not a bad light.

You could try upgrading your Duo with these:
- LEDLight 1W (TECHTONIQUE) which is supposed to replace the halogen bulb
- DUOLedLight 10 (TECHTONIQUE) which is, basically, a 10-led upgrade with a colour temperature of 6500K, which would give you the psychological comfort of an old, carbide lamp.

Or, if you want to throw away your old headlamp, you could get THE lamp for 400 Euros:
- TECHTONIQUE LedLamp Extreme -microchip, bla bla hi-tech

you could check the stuff out at: http://www.expe.fr
Cheers! :woohoo:
