Just wondering what type of beam people prefer.
By sidespill I mean the less intense "halo" or "corona" around the brighter hotspot of the headlamp.
Also, if you could post which headlamp has this type of beam, it'd be helpful.

I would choose all of the above. A perfect headlamp would do those things and more. A perfect headlamp has not yet and probaby will never be made. Currently the StenLite is closest, IMO.

I like the warm area light of a carbide...and the intense spot and brightness of the LED. When someone combines these two...I'll have it!
Carbide is so warm!

I love my carbide. The light is so warm and natural. LEDs are too blue to be easy on the eyes.

I like carbide, but it is such a hassle that I've basically stopped using it.
For electrics, I like a tight beam for distance work (vertical caving, spotting leads, etc), a mix of spot and flood beams for general caving, and a pure flood beam for extended crawls, narrow canyon passage, etc, where a bright spot can be annoying.
What I really *don't* like is a spot beam of any size with dark/light banding outside the spot area, like a badly positioned halogen bulb would produce.

I haven't caved w/ my Apex yet - but it puts out awesome light, and a great color too. I haven't used my carbide yet, but I can't wait to see what kind of light it puts off.
