You could try finding the most sturdy, non-cotton shorts you can find and sewing and/or gluing some cordura patches on the butt which is the primary place they're liable to wear out. Plus they'd be a little warmer/and slightly more padded if you sit on a rock or some mud.

What about some of the production caving shorts like dirty dave's or crawldaddies, just not worth it?
