Carbide Lamp Burner Tips

Postby tagkycaver » Apr 9, 2016 9:36 am

Well it has become almost impossible to find tips for regular carbide lamps; Guy's Dropper, Autolite, Justrite, Premier. Has anyone ever heard of some way to make a functional tip, or modify some other item to work as an effective tip?

I'm also very interested in buying any tips anyone might have laying around that they don't use anymore. Please reply or pm me if you have any you'd like to have-a-heart and get rid of.

Have you tried calling Bob Liebman of Bob&Bob caving supplies? He might have parts, and if not certainly has advice. He helped me fix up an old lamp last year which I've enjoyed using several times.

yep, neither bob nor any of the other regular cave-stuff vendors carry them anymore; have even tried several of the british shops. looks like my only hope is to find some old cavers who still have some squirreled away (batted away?) and never plan on using them. mite post a want add in nss news.

I was just thinkin that somebody somewhere may have figured out an alternative.

Try on Facebook, there's even a carbide light group. Plus someone always seems to sell some at TAG, or OTR, Speleofest, or some caver's get-together like that. You might try there.

Paul Johnson and Bill Fritz have a vendor's tent and a couple tables of carbide lamps at OTR.

Thanks. I'll try them. By the way, does anyone know if tips from the currently available JK Dey lamps (India, ) http://jkdey.com/
will fit in autolite, gds, justrites, etc.?
