Testing batteries by dropping them

According to this very nonscientific article, you can test an alkaline battery by dropping it on a hard surface and if its bounces, its dead. Here's the link to the article and you tube video. http://lifehacker.com/test-if-your-batt ... 1630525062

I have no idea if it actually works but it seems interesting. Oh, and I wouldn't suggest this with lithium batteries.

Kind of like the way you can spin a boiled egg like a top, but not a raw one?
