The latest REI flier has these on sale for $45.

I've never used one -- or even seen one in a cave -- but it's a tempting price, especially since our grotto has been considering buying a couple of loaner helmets for beginners.

Anyone have experience with these (pro or con)?

It is a good helmet for rock climbing...not sure about caving. Ventilation's subpar compared to many caving helmets and the shell is relatively thin. For the money and the club use, I think THIS is a better deal. These helmets are tough! A friend of mine used one last year to escape a tricky pothole in a slot canyon. Tied a line to it and threw it repeatedly into the narrow slot above the pothole and eventually wedged well enough to anchor a batman rope exit from the keeper.

Nothing against the Ederlid, but what about the Cassin Rock?
It's an excellent helmet, both UIAA and CE certified and sells at IMO for $ 55 apiece, so just slightly more... For a fast search, digit 16-6801 in the Search window...

I have a half dome that I got cheap and it is pretty nice. There are a few people in my area of KY that use them. They changed the helmet in 2006 to have a turn knob adjustment instead of the velcro adjustment strap of 2005. I personally prefer the Elios. It is much more durable and structurally superior.

My wife used one for a few years, and got tired of the straps. They seemed to big a pain to adjust. She has an Elios now instead, and likes it much better.

I have one...I realy dont have anything to compare it to.(Other than a construction helmet.) But I dont mind it to much. But once again its the first helmet that I have ever worn thats made for that kind of thing.

I checked on out at REI, and I agree, it looked like it has zero ventilation.

Thats what I use and everyone is correct, it is poorly ventilated. I wear a bandana underneath it and I still have sweat running down my face after about an hour.
