New Black Diamond Icon for Spring 2012

Postby sideshow » Feb 10, 2012 1:50 pm

AHHH! So I haven't been a big fan of BD lights for awhile, but I just saw the new Icon. Total redesign. 200 lumens, waterproof to 1m, aluminum casing. only $89. Anybody else seen/played with them? Opinions? I know you people got them!

Never been a big fan either and still not but,
200lm for 80hours on 4aa is quite impressive.

I ended up buying a spark st6 500cw for $89.
Now if you'll excuse me I'll be waiting by the mailbox.

It looks like an Apex. I wonder how similar it is to the 200 lumen Apex. I agree with Caver John ,If I was going to buy a light for that same amount of money I would buy The Spark. You would also have to buy the 18650 and charger or CR 123s with the Spark but you would get more light. Black Diamond does have the advantage of running off a more common battery at the expense of less output.

I'm pretty sure you'll find the Icon does not put out a full 200 lumens for 80 hours on its 4 AA battery pack. It more likely stays at full brightness for a couple of hours and then dims the beam for 70-something hours of lower intensity usable light.

Haven't seen this version in person, but the construction appears superior to the previous Icon which seemed like a cheap copy of the Apex.

I have been fondling it at the store I work at here. the construction is very nice. Definitely has a nice "robocop" vibe to it as well
