Saw this on G+ this morning. I see possibilities for caving.

I wonder what kind of "exhaust" it produces?? Probably no worse than carbide was/is.

From doing some more reading it looks like the only by-product is water vapor. The "Powerpukks" contain sodium silicide which reacts with water to produce hydrogen gas which is converted to energy and water vapor. That's my primitive understanding of it anyway. The downside to this product is that it's intended for usb (5V DC) charging devices only. Even if it were able to to charge my headlamp's battery back I'd need to use $24 worth of their Powerpukks.
