I had the chance to try the Petzl Ultra Wide caving recently, when a fellow gear junkie insisted I try one of his spares for the day. I was impressed. Very wide, even, bright light. The beam is more uniform than his Sten, and I found it quite useful for moving around the cave. Certainly more effective than my old Apex. Downside is the high price and lack of spot beam (if you need it).

I have used one for the last 3 months or so. Its very bright with an even cast of the light. It doesnt have a focal point like the stens that my cave buddys wear. The only down side to this that I have seen is trying to focus on a bat or other small object 50 plus feet away.

I use mine on the lowest setting, battery life is greater than I had expected.
