I've also got a large hat size, like an 8 & 5/8, whatever that translates to in inches. I found the Ecrin to be uncomfortable. Tried many helmets at vendors and found I liked the Petzl Vertex Vent. Worn it around four years now and still like it. It may not be much for fashion, but it is lighter than the Ecrin.

Ive been looking for some vendors out here where I live, but I cant find any that carry the helmets. So I am going to have to cross my fingers I think.

The Camp Highstar helmets are larger than most out there. Its the only one I found that I can wear.

I just seen that the highstar is not big enough either. But the Camp Startech may be.

I had the same issue, and ended up with the PMI Alto. I really like it, you should check it out at http://www.onrope1.com/store/index.php? ... 7&parent=9

I found a place that let me try on an ecrin roc. It fit, but it was snug, not overtly snug where it was hurting me, just snug. Though I dont ever wear anything on my head anyways, so I don't know how snug any helmet should feel. Any thoughts?

According to the figures on the Petzl website, the Vertex Vent (465g) is a negligible 20g heavier than the Ecrin Roc (445g). Is it possible that you were comparing an old version of the Ecrin Roc to a current Vertex Vent? (Might that explain why the Ecrin Roc was uncomfortable?)

By the way, for people interested in the Vertex who don't want the ventilation holes, a version with a factory-mounted DUO headlamp is available.

Eliah

So it is. It's been a few years, but that was my impression when I compared contemporary helmets. Maybe the Roc had a lamp mounted on it, something like that. Anyway, thanks for catching my error.
