Well the question begs to be asked... would it really screw up their sonar?
But the speed guns that LEO's use shoot radar beams not sonar right?
Interesting question I think... no I won't try it at home either, mmm'kay?

sonar is technically underwater sound waves I believe. also, bats use echo-location (sound) where radar guns use radio or electromagnetic waves...does make a good cartoon though :)

There is the old story about a cop in the UK shooting a radar gun at a passing military jet to see how fast it was going, the jets automated radar warning and defense systems thought it was being "painted" by a missle tracking radar and ejected chaff and flares giving the surprised cop quite a show....I kinda doubt this would really happen, but it is plausible I guess and does make a good story!

OK, so I googled. I didn't get an "official" site, but it seems logical, so I'll pass on, unattributed, what I learned.

Sonar is sound waves, radar is radio waves. So it seems to have to do with what part of the electromagnetic spectrum the waves are produced, not whether they are underwater or in the air. So bats do use sonar.

Ya learn something new everyday (well I did, anyway).
