If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one

year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the

original $1,000.00 .

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00

left.

If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock

you would have $49.00left

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one

year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans

for the aluminum recycling REFUND, You would have had

$214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice

is to drink heavily and recycle.

It's called the 401-Keg.

Either you guys have REALLY REALLY cheap beer or HUGE refunds for your aluminium cans!! :yikes:

OK I know it's a joke but being refunded over 1/5th the cost of your beer for the cans? the refund in South Australia is 5 cents and the cheapest you'd get soft drink is about $ 0.50 - $1 a can, beer is more expensive again...

Yeah, I think the joke is a little optimistic.

I'm no beer expert by a long shot, but you can usually find cases of 30 cans here with a price tag of around $15. This depends on how discerning your taste in brown water is, of course. I'm sure some are worth every penny at 50 cents a can!

Can refunds differ state-by-state, but a nickel is pretty standard. So $1000 might equal 2000 cans, which at 5c a can would give you a $100 refund. Of course this assumes the person drinking the beer has the motive, means, and opportunity to actually recycle the cans.

Although... when you see the price tags on beer in the store here, you have to remember that's not usually the total price. At the checkout, (when applicable) they add on the state sales tax AND the can deposit amount (ie the refund you'll get back for recycling). It's the same with soda cans and bottles in most states too. So really a can/bottle refund is just like a tax refund - it's great until you realize it was your money in the first place!

Of course you probably didn't get the 401-keg punchline, that was the funny bit.
