My favorite is what a friend from Colorado does. When leaving the vehicle for the cave he announces to the group, "The keys are..............OVER THERE!", as he chucks them into the woods, bushes, cactus, etc.

He does this even in Mexico.

In 1980, we prepared to enter the Sumidero de Jonotla, near Cuetzalan, Mexico. The pickup truck was parked along side a public road. I looked around, and carefully buried the keys under a rock 100 feet from the vehicle. My wife left her watch on top of the console.

!2 hours later, at about 1:00 a.m., we emerged from the through trip exhausted but happy. I got the keys, but found that I hadn't locked the truck! The watch and other things were untouched.

The honesty of the indigenous passersby was heartwarming.

Saludos from Mexico,
Mike
