Don't get too close to the campfire Wayne. It might blow up. My wife had that gas for surgery awhile back and it was
a hoot after she got home. Surprising how long it took for it to all go away. Anyway, we are glad to have you back.

Regarding the passing gas after surgery, it does continue for awhile and that makes me worry that I'm now a contributer to global warming.. :yikes:

The recovery can go up to six weeks. Right now, I'm off work for a week -- at home on heavy pain meds, and then will try to work from home half days for awhile. It will be at least a month before I am able to return to work in person.

As for caving, I don't see it in my immediate future. It's quite strenuous, at altitude, here in Colorado and I will be totally out of shape by the time I am able to go caving.

Thanks for all the well wishes and good thoughts. I'd be interested in hearing from any other cavers who have had the same surgery. Just click on my email link.

So just what gas are the pumping into people? I'm sure it's not methane, as that would be dangerous. CO2 would be nonflamable, but why? Why not plain ole air?

Wikipedia sez:
(Laparoscopic surgery) "The gas used is CO2, as it is common to the human body and can be removed by the respiratory system if it absorbs through tissue. It is also non-flammable, which is important due to the fact that electrosurgical devices are commonly used in laparoscopic procedures."

Thanks Cheryl. Though that leaves yet more questions. Such as what the absorption rate of CO2 is versus N2. Curious.

Thanks, BigA.

It's the first major surgery I've had as an adult, so the recovery is a new experience for me.

I appreciate all the good thoughts from everyone and I've come away from this with a great appreciation for nurses -- and I don't mean that as a joke.
