This subject was such a great lead in that I couldn't resist
a plug for a really good off road vehicle that often gets a
bad rap.

I bet those tread vehicles can go almost anywhere but I
find it hard to believe they are all that benign to the natural
surroundings. Bull dozers have tracks and they tear up
anything they ride on. Of course their tracks are steel and
the vehicle Wayne presented appears to have rubber treads.

Wayne, you got any more info on that device? It would be
interesting to hear from someone who actually uses those
tracks. Any park service track users on this forum?

I agree that they can be beneficial in some situations like rescues.
I can also see how they would not tear up the ground as bad while driving straight because of the larger footprint but I would think that they would do a lot more damage when turning due to the larger footprint.

So they definately have their pros and cons but I do not see a use for them in caving.
