NJ: Don't eat more than two squirrels a week

Postby Wayne Harrison » Jan 25, 2007 11:40 am

TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey is warning residents to limit their consumption of squirrels killed near a toxic waste dump.

Many residents of Ringwood are members of an Indian tribe who hunt and fish in the area.

A squirrel contaminated with lead was found there two months ago.

State officials sent out letters advising that adults who eat squirrels should eat no more than two a week. It should be even fewer for children and pregnant women.

Wayne,

Dang, I'd better check my freezer now. It's a good thing Barbara is off caving.

Hey, but I got a really good recipe for squirrel stew. This is not one of those joke recipes, but one in a game cookbook. It starts, "Kill, skin and gut 40 medium-sized squirrels."

I read that far, and was tired already.
