I need a good idea....

Postby bigalpha » Oct 6, 2006 5:11 pm

So, I need a pretty good idea. Something pretty cheap, easy to do, and easy maintain. I mean, like a REAL nifty idea.

Here's the scenario:

I'm tired of getting my car seats all sweaty when I get in it after playing ultimate or racquetball and stuff. I want an easy, simple idea in a slipcover for my car seats. Something waterproof and washable. Preferrably, something that won't slip off while driving. I initially thought of buying a tarp, and cutting/sewing it to fit over the headrest, and letting it drape over the seats.... but didnt know if there was a cheaper/easier way to do it.

Whaddya think?

Why not just get one of the many on the market seat cushions already available? It's a whole lot easier and cheap too.

If you want to go cheap (and tacky, but it works) find an appropriately sized fitted bottom sheet with elastic.

(I said it was cheap and tacky.) Get some cool print, though, not white. They don't show the dirt as much.

cob - any idea where I could get something like that?

Teresa - That would work great, but not waterproof.

Cabelas sells a packcloth type seat cover. They are a universal fit on most bucket seats. I used to have one in my other truck.

Here's a link. They are 20 bucks

cool. I'll weigh that in with my options. I was hoping for something that was more easily removable. I know, I'm being picky.

My initial thought was something that would slip over the headrest, and just drape over the whole seat.

Bigal, go to autozone, O'reillys etc. You can get one of the "fitted" types or get the kind that just sit on top of the seat. There is one that is made of little wooden balls that can go over the head rest and another type that has inner springs with polyester threads woven over. I prefer the 2nd type but they don't generally go higher than ones shoulders and they don't tie off to the seat.

i tried looking at advance auto, but they only have regular seat covers, the cloth kind. I'll have to check the other places to see if they have any waterproof kinds. I don't like the beads, they are not very comfy to me!

Try using bath sheets. They should be big enough to fit a car seat. To hold in place, get some large rubber bands or cut a old inner tube into strips.

:woohoo:

T-shirts, size XL. They do fit over the headrests on Subarus, and you can take them off & wash them.

[JoeyS, if you'd make a link using a description instead of the whole URL, the page wouldn't spread out like this.]

I don't know if mechanics over there use them but the mechanics over here have a plastic cover they slide over the seats to stop them getting grease etc on the seats, maybe go along to a mechanic's garage and ask if you can have a few.

back when i was cave diving alot, we would go 3 am cave diving and it would be 30 degrees outside when we got out of the water, so we would hrow the gear in the back of the car and just wear our wetsuits back to to the shop and strip in front of the heater inside. So I just started sitting on a small tarp over my seat to keep from getting my cloth seats all wet.

Man those were the good ol' days
