Prometheus movie trailer shows automated cave mapping probes

This movie looks great. But I noticed something cool in the trailer-

At around the 1:15 mark, a person lets two red probes fly out through a cave. They scan the passage, and at 1:25 you get a brief look at the resulting map.

Sounds awesome, but the link you have bring me to some nice speakers.

That's odd about the link. It just takes me straight to the trailer on youtube.

If it's still acting funny, just do a search for "Prometheus official trailer." The one that is two and a half minutes long shows the probe.

Hmm, try this link-

(Yesterday I edited your post and changed the link so nobody would think you were spamming the forum.)

Thanks for the fix. I bet I was reading about speakers that day and messed up the link.

Think I will try to hit Prometheus opening day- June 8 in the USA.

One more day!

I think the last time I saw a grownup movie in a theater was Sanctum.

I saw it Friday... I thought it was pretty good.

the little mapping robots were called PUPS or something like that. They mapped quite efficiently and my wife and I were whispering to each other how much we wanted one.

I would agree with pretty good. I wanted it to be great / amazing, but so be it. I did enjoy how Prometheus connected with the other Alien movies and explains a few things.

I got a kick out of the geologist- "I like rocks. I love rocks. But it seems to me that all you care about are giant dead bodies. And I really don't have anything to contribute in the giant dead body arena!"

And yeah, those cave mappers are amazing. Let them go, have a cup of coffee while they work, and get treated to a full 3D map of the cave.

Did somebody ask for autonomous robotic mapping? Actually, plenty of researchers are currently working on ways to map interior environments using quadrotors and LiDAR/Kinect/Cameras. With the ever increasing energy density of batteries along with miniaturization and lessening costs of electronics we could very well see commercially available autonomous mappers soon.

Thanks for the link. I thought I read something once about XBOX 360 Kinects being hacked to scan caves.
