The Archive of Misheard Lyrics

Postby Wayne Harrison » Apr 2, 2006 4:23 pm

What a hoot. A web site where people can post the lyrics they THOUGHT they heard in songs and explain how embarassed they were when they found out they were wrong.

Four Tops: Ain't No Woman (Like The One I Got)

The real lyrics were:
Ain't no woman like the one I got

But I misheard them as:
Ain't no woman like a one-eyed goat

=============================

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Bad Moon Rising

The real lyrics were:
There's a bad moon on the rise

But I misheard them as:
There's a bathroom on the right

==============================

Crystal Gayle: Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue

The real lyrics were:
Don't it make your brown eyes blue?

But I misheard them as:
Don't it make your brown ass blue?

==============================

BTO: Takin' Care Of Business

The real lyrics were:
Takin' Care of Business!

But I misheard them as:
Bakin' Carrot Biscuits!

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Bad Moon Rising

The real lyrics were:
There's a bad moon on the rise

But I misheard them as:
There's a bathroom on the right

Well he might've been giving directions at the time of the recording so it ... could be correct.
==============================
BTO: Takin' Care Of Business

The real lyrics were:
Takin' Care of Business!

But I misheard them as:
Bakin' Carrot Biscuits!

Considering the size of the various band members... this might've been what they were thinking about...

Yep - that site is a good 'un, all right...

Our favorite has always been "Hold me closer, Tony Danza..." (..."tiny dancer"...) :laughing:

But then my wife spouts new and strange lyrics all the time - often without even realizing they're not the "real" ones... :roll: :doh:

I've seen those misheard lyric sites before. I once submitted my worst one:

Randy Travis had a song, 'If I Didn't Have You." One line went, "lost like a ship at sea." But no matter how many times I heard it, it always sounded exactly like, "lost like a chimpanze." I knew it was wrong, but could NOT figure it out until I bought the CD and could hear it without radio noise. Or maybe I read the lyrics somewhere.

Mine is:

AC/DC:

Real lyrics:
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap.

My lyrics:
... deeds, and the thunderchief.

The song 'Judy in Disguise' was written because of misheard lyrics from 'Lucy in the Sky, with Diamonds'.

What about
I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering ram on a silver gray mountain bike ?
I believe Jim Steinman wrote "Motorbike"

:shock:

I think there must be a website for everything nowadays.

To this day when I hear the Beatle's Paperback Writer what I hear is:
Pay for my Chrysler....

OK, I'll admit I hated Aerosmith's "Do the Funky Lady".

Liked it a little better after learning it's "Dude Looks Like a Lady". :oops:

Oh yeah, I always thought that "lay down and boogie and play that funky music 'til you die" sounded kinda, uh, funky.

"Lay down THE boogie and play that funky music 'til you die" sounds better. :doh: The little lady still sings it the other way...

Bruce Springsteen may be the worst when it comes to trying to understand lyrics. It's not even that you can mistake them for something else... he's just completely unintelligible - and I'm from Jersey!
