I don't get the fascination. If I find any I will probably give them to Beth. I hate mushrooms (both taste and texture they are SO GROSS) and in fact I remember mowing these over in our yard a lot at the house. And then we found out people *wanted* these mushrooms and of course they never grew again

I'll have to learn my mushrooms one day so I can got gather and eat some without getting my liver disintegrated. I can agree raw mushrooms kind of suck, all you have to do is cook them a little bit and get the juices to come out.

I'm with Amy. Mushrooms are dirty, disgusting fungal mutations. But if you like 'em, go for it. Yuck.

Haha, I can remember going out in the mountains as a child with the family and picking the Morell mushrooms, a good day of picking mushrooms could net you several hundred dollars from the asian vendors that would set up during the mushroom season.

Morels are one of the more delicious wild mushrooms, and we have a patch of them that grow in our yard. But "'Tis the Season?" Hah, not here. Today's snowfall covered anything out in the yard (which we finally got see this past week - first time since November). The Morels are usually out here around the third week of May. Caution - know your wild mushrooms before eating. Mistakes can be sickening, or worse. But they are a true earthly delight.

Just don't take any shortcuts to mushrooms, you'll get some creepy guys in black cloaks looking for you.

There's a certain ongoing project around here that spends too much time in late May wandering around in the woods on Morelle Day weekend.
