Sure is quiet here

Postby Phil Winkler » Nov 24, 2010 11:06 am

Where is everyone? I can't recall it ever being this quiet. Thanksgiving preparations and traveling, I'm sure. Happy Turkey Day everyone.

Well, I just spent 13 hours driving to Austin, Texas to my sister in law's. She lives a mile from the Congress bridge, downtown, where there is a huge bat hibernaculum. going there tonight to hopefully see them flying around.

Chad,

May be too late in the season for the Mexican freetails at Congress Ave., but good luck - it's quite the sight.

Re: the quietude: I'm at work at my clinic, but taking my staff to lunch in a little while, then giving them the afternoon off. I've got a couple projects to finish, then some shopping and helping make dishes for tomorrow's big meal at my daughter, Emily's homestead in NH. They've slaughtered the 40 pounder, plus lots of other goodies from their land and our big garden.

I've also just posted Wisconsin's Environmental Assessment and various e-mails working to get as many cavers from around the country to file by 4:00 Monday. See elsewhere on Cave Chat for details. What happens in Wisconsin is not likely to stay in Wisconsin, so, cavers unite.

Happy Thanksgiving All!

Everywhere seems quiet today. Cavechat is one of the quieter places there is.

Happy Turkey Day to everyone, though. Or Happy Turkey-esque vegan alternative Day!

Maybe its just me but I've noticed a decline in posts/ replys over the last couple months. I figured everyone bailed to another forum. Nice to know i'm not the only one noticing the silence. Maybe the feds opened up all the caves and everyones caving :woohoo: (yeah right)

Quiet is nice. But the spammers still make their presence known, usually late at night. Then we zap them!

My excuse was being off the grid for the weekend, then caving all day yesterday followed by a grotto meeting. Cleaning/decon today, while prepping for this thing called Thanksgiving.

Happy Turkey Day folks. :turkey:

I don't think Cavechat has ever been as active as the other fora that I visit:

Well hmm I was caving in the UK for the last two weeks, I thought I did a good job updating my thread but very few people post in it :(
I am sitting in the Charlotte airport waiting for my connection home right now. I managed to get onto a wifi network :) (hey, if you leave it unsecured, it's fair game!)

Those who are caving, aren't talking.
Those who aren't caving, have nothing to talk about.
Therefore, there is no talk.

Thanks! I love it but it's definitely not much for caves lol. Gotta do a little traveling for that which is easy enough.

How is SW Missouri for that? I'm there a few times a year due to family...mostly stick to caves in the Arkansas portion of the Ozarks though. Got a few fracture caves in Devil's Den and then a normal solution cave at Blanchard Springs Caverns does a wild cave tour that was decent. The main thing I didn't like was you couldn't use your own equipment due to the WNB stuff going around but the sites were great. If you know of anything else good around you I'd def like to check that our next time I'm up!
