convention plans?

Postby wendy » Mar 26, 2007 2:08 pm

What are everyone's convention and pre-and post camp plans for July? I am trying to confirm what I want to do and was curious as to what everyone else will do.

There are some really good pre-camps planned and post-camps too. I plan on going to a pre-camp in Kentucky, just haven't finalized my plans yet.

Cavers are coming - but are procrastinators

I doubt that. Since this convention is an easy 8 hour drive or less for literally THOUSANDS of cavers, folks can stay flexible.

Myself?
Since I have caved in Indiana and the surrounding area for over a decade and you may even see my name pop up in one or two of the guidebook caves, I am not planning an entensive trip. I am hoping to make the SJVG Saturday night swaree' though. Other than that, I need to try and make this trip fit into my job changing situation.

My daughter Margaret and I will be driving cross country from Colorado to the week-long pre-convention camp at Roppel Cave in Kentucky then going up to the convention.

For those who are interested in pre-convention stuff but don't know what's available, remember there's a permanent link to the 2007 Convention site in the blue links above (it's just below the caveman's picture).

Glenn and I plan to attend convention but don't have time or money to attend a camp. (Just finished building a money pit . . . .I mean house. We have been moving tons of boxes from our storage building this week. Now the unpacking. . . Glenn is thinking about starting a small business and I may be changing jobs. Too much up is up in the air right now to make many plans)

Hey Martha--
Tell Glenn to start a business...the 'small' will take care of itself at the beginning. (grin)

We're trying to get a passle of Missourians to head to Marengo. It's closer than the next MVOR, for those on the east side of the state, for starters.

I'm going.

I've not been to a convention in fifteen years of NSS membership - and since this one is within a days drive and i have nothing to do that week, i plan on being there the whole week.

I will most definitely be there. At least for the week...I don't know if I'll do the pre or post stuff, but if things work out I just might.

This will be my eighth convention off and on since 1995. (I should have started earlier, like in the mid-eighties; but I do try to make them, if I can.)

I am trying to get some of my grotto members to go too! None of them have ever been to an convention. And since this one is only nine hours away from where we are, I can't not accept any excuses from them. (We drive almost as long to go caving in some parts of WV.)

BTW...I'll be camping. Look for a large silver canopy w/ a Bubble Cave banner, a Gargoyle banner and a Bald Eagle Grotto banner. ~v~ ~V~ ~v~ Oh, I forgot about Buffalo Valley Grotto (I just join them.) I'll have something banner wise for them as well!

Well, I know where you will be Monday and Wednesday nights. Jep.

PS Don't forget to look for those 4-color rope lights.

Yep, planning on being at convention, should take about 5-6 hours to get down there from Chicago. In fact, I'm registration #36. The Indiana crew has a great location and I'm looking forward to convention.

As for post convention, the ISS is working up an "unoffical" trip to do survey in Equality cave over in Illinois during the closing weekend of convention. Camping will be cheap or free. Equality is about 2.5 hours form the convention location. I'll be sure to post info here about the trip. Otherwise people can contact me or go to the ISS website http://www.caves.org/iss/minutes/July%202007%20SNF.htm.
