Auction for Inside Earth #2 magazine

Postby Ernie Coffman » May 16, 2013 1:31 pm

Here's another item that wasn't on my list of books--Inside Earth #2--which came out in 1973, shortly after my article in the NSS NEWS on Windeler Cave; thus, there was a funny on the Illumination page (editorial) in reference to that cave. Some great articles, beginning with a viewpoint from Raymond de Saussure of Cave Research Associates; plans and description on building your own ascenders by Peter Smith; an interview of Michel Siffre; story by George Jackson about "the good 'ole days"; beautiful pictures by Karl Kunath, including the infamous Butterfly formation in Caverns of Sonora before it was broken; and cartoons, etc., etc. Definitely a collector's item since there weren't that many produced.

So this will go up for auction, as of today, May 16th and will close on May 26th at 12-noon. The postage will be extra, but will be sent First Class, which should be nominal, unless media mail is less. Your choice! So...who wants to get this collector's item with a starting bid at $5 and raising bids at a dollar per bid? Good luck and any questions, let me know with PM, which won't tie this column up.

Guess no one was interested, so the auction is over since it's 12 noon here on the Pacific Coast.

Inside Earth was an unusually artistic caving publication, ahead of its time, 60 to 80 pages of really good material in each issue; in their own words "a high quality outlet for written or graphic expressions of the caving experience." Unfortunately there were only four issues published to 1976. IMHO it is a must-have for collectors of vintage cave publications.
