Was reading the history of the Bacardi rum bat logo / trademark at their Miami airport restaurant and realized might be opportunity for caving community / NSS / environmental groups to try to get Bacardi on board to work toward conservation of bats and cave habitat. I e-mailed them something just today; doubt if I'll hear something.
Bacardi seems quite profit-oriented; more beach and urban life oriented: the ultra hip, young, affluent crowd. Doesn't mesh so well with full-on cavers or environmental issues, but you never know. They should do something environmental, and this seems like a good fit. Bats need help wherever worldwide, and Bacardi markets same. Told them cavers sometimes sip considerable hard stuff.
The bat story: the first distillery put into production by __ Bacardi ___ in Cuba was home to a colony of bats inside the tin roof. Considered a sign of good fortune, they were allowed to remain, eventually becoming the logo.
If anyone thinks this is a good idea and has contacts, ideas and experience, please pick this up and run with it.
