Helping critters at Dunbar Cave

Postby Wayne Harrison » Jun 10, 2006 1:22 pm

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area is getting more environmentally friendly.

The old six-foot metal gate that had stood on the property for the past 27 years has been removed. Its replacement, erected by volunteers, makes the cave more secure and friendlier to those creatures living there, particularly the bats.

The project was headed up through the Friends of Dunbar Cave, which holds a number of fundraising events for the cave and works on the park's trails.

The old gate can still serve a purpose once the cave museum has on display those artifacts escavated in the 1970s. The old gate — perhaps with its trademark creepy squeak — can serve as an entrance.
