Tourist Caves

Postby zad101 » Mar 22, 2006 2:21 pm

Hey this is my first post. What I'm concerned about is companies taking caves and destroying them to make them into tourist locations. I want to know what you guys think about this.

Zad,

Welcome to the forum. Actually, the general consensus is that the commercialism of a cave is frequently an excellent method of preserving it as well as it providing a means of educating and entertaining the public. There is an association of commercial cave owners and they publish many methods of ensuring thier assets (the cave and grounds) are preserved and presented in the best way.

Perhaps in the distant past some caves suffered from being commercialized, but I suspect the vast majority of cave owners today are very conservation minded.

Interesting topic, too.
