Russell Cave Watershed Clean Up

Postby Lynn » Feb 10, 2006 12:33 pm

The SERA Karst Task Force Clean Up of the Russell Cave Watershed will take place on Orme Mountain Road, February 19th, 2006 at 10 AM (the day after The SERA Winter Business Meeting ( http://www.caves.org/grotto/cag ) Sewanee, TN).

Location: Intersection 156 and Orme Mt Rd
Host Grotto: Sewanee Mountain Grotto
Directions: From I-24 exit 134, turn left from either east or west bound onto 41A, go about 3 miles and turn left at the first blinking light onto 156, go approx 18.8 miles (watchout, 156 takes 2 sharp turns to get around the airport, follow signs) and turn right onto Orme Mt Rd. Someone will be there to direct parking, sign you up and get you started. From points south, get to South Pittsburgh and turn onto 156 and go about 5 miles to Orme Mt Rd, it will be on your left coming from that direction.

After the clean up, the SERA Karst Task Force, Inc. Board Meeting will be held Sunday February 19th at 5 PM Central. The location, Mi Jackal, a new Mexican Restaurant in Kimball, TN. It is located on State route 2 north of the intersection of US 72. The public is invited.

Lynn - one correction - the meeting is "in my neighborhood" - I've eaten at that restaurant several times and it is on State Route 2 HOWEVER, it is north of the intersection of US 72 not US 27 :-)

good turn out in spite of the cold

Lynn can probably provide an exact number of attendees but I was there for the clean up and in spite of the fact that at 10 am the temp on the mountain top was below freezing more than 20 cavers (and one local resident who had heard about the clean up) showed up to pick roadside trash.

Gail Wilbanks, wife of SFTF Chairman Jim Wilbanks, kept the workers supplied with hot coffee and hot chocolate.
