My books say it is a "spathite".

Are they uncommon??? I know of one cave here (private, and has only been entered by 6 people) that has all kinds of them.
according to this: http://www.caves.org/pub/journal/PDF/V4 ... ubbard.htm there are only 3 known locations, however this article is old, so does anyone know the status on 'rarity"??

Spathites are common as gravel in many central MO caves. In fact classic straight soda straws can be quite rare in many caves here.
