Counting bats

Dressed in old clothes and wearing respirators , a small group of Pajarito Grotto cavers crawled into Feather Cave near Fort Stanton a couple of weeks ago.

They were looking for bats. The respirators were to avoid breathing in hyptoplasmosis, a fungus known to grow on bat guano at this particular cave

Exposure to hyptoplasmosis can cause severe health problems .
