About the SeminarSpeleo-Ed seminars are an outstanding way to learn more about cave exploration and science while enjoying a fun and social weekend with friends from across the western states. With the gracious assistance of many volunteers and organizations, we have worked together to deliver a great spring weekend to kick off your summer caving season.
Point Reyes National Seashore, Olema, CAFrom its thunderous ocean breakers crashing against rocky headlands and expansive sand beaches to its open grasslands and forested ridges, visitors to
Point Reyes National Seashore can discover over 1000 species of plants and animals while exploring the fascinating geology of the San Andreas Fault. This rugged landscape has been called home by several cultures over thousands of years. The many sea caves of the Pacific coast will be our central topic at
Speleo-Ed 2010.
Camping and AccommodationsThe Western Region of the NSS has reserved a section of the
Olema Ranch RV Resort for this year’s Speleo-Ed events. Just one hour from San Francisco or the Napa Valley and minutes from one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline anywhere, this campground provides access to sixty-five thousand acres of unspoiled wilderness, from grassy meadows to coastal forests, rife with wildlife and heart-stopping vistas. Each campsite has a table and campfire pit. RV Hook-ups are available and the entire camp is wired for WiFi Internet access. To reduce our per-site costs, cavers may be asked to share sites depending on capacity. All camping fees are included in your registration. Seating during the morning sessions will be in short supply, so please bring a folding camp chair if you can. If possible, please carpool to save space and energy. All campers must be registered participants in the Speleo-Ed seminar. Day use rates are available but do not include camping, Sunday’s field trips or evening activities. The town of Olema is only 5 minutes away for anyone wishing to stay in a hotel.
