There are led trips that you sign up for, as well as alot of caves listed in the included guidebook that you can tour on your own. Last year, we just went to the SCCI booth and asked for some ideas. We ended up going to Hurricane Cave, which hindsight, I'm glad since it is now closed. There lots of caves within an hours drive so you'll have plenty of choices. May be inquire at the registration building when you first check in.

something will come up. It's not like there is a shortage of places to go close by.
I'm just looking for ideas right now. Dry cave, minimal vertical, and something I won't have to drive all day to get to.

ok i think i am getting it now, well at least the first picture, it just wasn't that clear the first time, so here's another question. Did the bat fly onto your helmet and stay there?

ok so you know we all frown upon handling bats if he was about to fall out of his perch, then let him fall, he will just fly to a new spot, handling bats can stress them, and if they are hibernating, stress can kill them, generally when we encounter bats we even whisper to keep from disturbing them

not meaning to get onto you, just a little mid day educating :caver:

you may have thought he was about to fall out of a hole, but they all pretty much look like they are hanging on to nothing.. best to leave them alone. If he actually fell, he was probably sick.

I ran across a vole or something that was dragging a live bat across the cave floor. It was a sad and disgusting site, but that's nature.

Besides, if that bat gets some bat saliva on you, in your eyes, or a cut, your mouth, the possibility of getting rabies goes up. IOW, best to steer clear of bats and leave them alone.

Back to the beer thread..all you thirsty cavers should know that the city of LaFayette,(about a 20-25 minute drive) has a beer ordinance that allows beer sales 24 hours a day except they don't sell on Sunday. So if you run out in the wee hours, you just have to wake up a sober friend to make the run for you. :driving:
