Wind Cave Restoration Camp
Wind Cave National Park’s Restoration Camp will be held May 7 – 11, 2007. The goal of the yearly project is to restore natural conditions along the public tour routes. This year’s camp will focus on removing large rotten wood piles and lint along the Natural Entrance Tour.
We are soliciting help from the general caving public. We are interested in volunteers who can work the whole week, as well as, volunteers that can put in a day or even a half-day. No previous experience is required and only basic equipment is required. Free housing in the VIP Building and a $10-15 daily stipend is available.
Work will be accomplished in the cave over four days. Wednesday will be a “day off,” and will include optional caving trips. There will be one or two evening presentations about Wind Cave and the Black Hills. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in an exploration trip the following Saturday, May 12th.
To sign up, or for more details, please contact Jason Walz at 605-745-1187 or Jason_Walz@nps.gov. The deadline for applying is Friday, April 6, 2007.
