Missouri to Host Cave Symposium in October

Postby Wayne Harrison » Jan 13, 2007 11:47 am

Missouri residents who are curious about caves and interested in learning how to keep them healthy have a rare opportunity this year. The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Caves and Karst Conservancy are sponsoring the 16th National Cave and Karst Management Symposium Oct. 8 through 12 in St. Louis.

The symposium is designed to give people of diverse backgrounds and interests a chance to share information and coordinate efforts to care for one of Earth's least familiar and most interesting biological communities. Cave researchers, spelunkers, experts on cave biology and amateur cave enthusiasts from around the globe are expected to attend.

Thanks for the early heads-up. I've never been to one of these symposia and it might be rewarding.
Now I have enough lead time to hopefully get time off!

The 2007 NCKMS Web site is just now up and running http://www.nckms2007.org You may register there and learn how to submit a paper. A few pages are still being worked on, so check back if you need info not yet posted.

Information is also here on Bill Elliot's Biospeleology Web site.

This is THE cave management event in the US. Anyone involved or interested in managing caves and kart should plan to attend. The NCKMS is the best opportunity to meet with the movers and shakers in research and management, as well as learn the latest cave management developments, ideas, and accomplishments. :rock band: In addition, Project Underground and Bat Conservation International will offer full day workshops.
