For anyone wanting an idea of what some of Indiana's caves are like, check out the following link:

Elliot Stahl has posted several very nice pictures that provide great examples of just a few of the caves available for exploration while attending the Convention. He also has many other nice pictures of caving in TAG and nature. Elliot just emailed me permission to post this link on this forum.

Campground pics at the 2007 site...

Postby John Lovaas » May 12, 2007 10:13 am

Hi all-

Was just browsing the pictures at the 2007 convention site and saw these two pics of the campground-

Image

and

Image

Three things come to mind-

1) Pretty darned funny- or
2) A humorous hacker has accessed the Convention site- or
3) I had better rethink my camping arrangements

Those of you who are familiar with the Convention location might tell tell me which of these it is! Or are these pics from the Salem Convention?

Those two pictures are not of the campground for the 2007 Convention. I've been to this years site during some pretty bad storms and water does not pool like that (it just gets muddy). It's possible that those pics could be from the 1992 Salem Convention. That site was much lower and on a big lake. The site in Marengo is much higher ground. The first two pictures shown on the Convention web site are actual overhead views of the campground.

I was fairly confident that they weren't pictures of this year's site. 'cuz if they were, it'd be a bad marketing practice to let folks see them! ;-)

Maybe they should have a disclaimer there- my heart did jump when I first viewed them.

The web site has now been updated to show that those two pictures are there for humor.

The campground is located on a high ridge...if water gets up that high, there will be other problems on this side of the Mississippi.

Some may not have browsers that allow the cursor to show image messages. If you hover your cursor over any of the pictures it shows a description of the picture. On the School pics, you can find out the room number of the classroom and then locate it on the School map.

Make sure and keep Sister Winkie happy and there will be no rain.

Oh-ma-gosh, I just remembered...At the Salem Convention, I gave Sister Winkie a cassette copy of Neil Youngs "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere" album. If She was offended... I am so so sorry.

If the humor of the flood pictures did not immediately occur to you:

a) You haven't seen the DVD Promo which Indiana did. OMG!!!! These folks are probably hard workers, but they are *WARPED* (in a good way.)

b) You are not old enough to to remember the 1986 convention in Tularosa, NM.

Grab a PFD, and let's go caving! It *is* Indiana, you know.

No, I have not- I understand it is hilarious. A Youtube link, perhaps?

Not a question of age but avocation- I was an amateur cyclist(and small business owner) at the time. Between the two, I didn't have the money or time to delve into caving. I had yet to have met any cavers at that point in my life.

I started caving in 1989, and I have yet to set foot in an Indiana cave. I hope to end that streak at Convention.
