Call for papers for the 1st FEPUR Congress / 5th FEALC Congress / 2007
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description: 1st Announcement and call for research abstracts.

The Speleological Federation of Puerto Rico – FEPUR – and the Speleological Federation of Latin America and the Caribbean – FEALC – invites the speleological community and ersons interested in caves and karst to submit abstracts related to the distinct branches of the natural and social sciences and to participate in the first Congress of FEPUR and fifth Congress of FEALC which are going to be held concurrently.

The Congress will take place in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, from July 29 to August 4, 2007 and will be co-hosted by the University of Puerto Rico and the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. The general goal of the Congress is to provide a forum to encourage the discussion of relevant topics in speleology in the context of Latin-America, the Caribbean and Puerto Rico.

The committee in charge of the scientific program will be supported by expert scientists in the relevant areas. The committee will watch over the quality of the submitted abstracts and papers. High quality standards will be established to judge the content and presentation of the submitted works.

The acceptance of abstracts and full papers will be based on a peer review process of at least two qualified referees in the relevant area of expertise. Once an abstract is accepted the full paper, formatted as a research paper, must be submitted. The memories of the selected papers will be published by the time of the Congress.

Papers can be presented on plenary sessions or as posters, depending on the author and the program committee selections. Preference will be given to studies conducted in Latin America and the Caribbean, studies from other regions may be considered depending on the topic, and available space and time.

Deadline for abstract submission:

Abstracts must be submitted prior to November 30, 2006. Abstracts shall be sent to the scientific program coordinator, Mr. Abel Vale, to his e-mail enlacepr@caribe.net, and to the scientific program secretary, Dr. Ricardo J. Morales-De_Jesús, to his e-mail cifi-tec@uprrp.edu.
