Tenn. Cave and Karst Working Group Public Meeting - February 25, 2012 Knoxville, TN
This free symposium on Cave and Karst Resources in Tennessee, is open to the public but is focused on folks who explore caves, research in caves, or manage caves. The Tennessee Cave and Karst Working Group has gathered some of the leading experts in various disciplines intersecting with cave and karst resources. The meeting will be held Saturday February 25 at the University of Tennessee Student Center, in the Shiloh Room, beginning at 9:00 AM EST.
The tentative schedule follows:
9:00-9:05 Welcome : Stuart Carroll (Tennessee State Parks) & Cory Holliday (The Nature Conservancy)
9:05-9:30 Status of Cave and Karst Exploration in Tennessee: Marion O. Smith (National Speleological Society)
9:30-10:00 Prehistoric and Historic Cultural Resources in Tenn: Dr. Jan Simek (University of Tennessee) & Joseph C. Douglas (Volunteer State Com. College)
10:00-10:30 Paleontology in Caves: Dr. Blaine W. Schubert (East Tennessee State University)
11:00-11:30 Fate of Contaminants in Karst: From Storm Runoff to Illegal Dumping: Dr. Thomas D. Byl (Tennessee State University)
11:30-12:00 Caves and the Legal Environment: Edward M. Yarbrough (Walker, Tipps, and Malone)
