Cave and Karst Management Workshop
June 20th to 24th, 2011
The U.S. Forest Service, NSS Conservation Division, and National Cave and Karst Research Institute will be hosting a Cave and Karst Resources Management Workshop in Elkins on June 20th to 24th, 2011.
The workshop has been designed to explain, explore, and identify the unique challenges of protecting, restoring, conserving, and interpreting cave and karst resources. This intensive course includes practical instruction in cave management practices.
Topics covered will focus on the essentials of cave and karst resources management, including federal cave laws, cave inventories and monitoring, developing cave management plans, cave conservation and restoration techniques, developing partnerships and agreements, and much more. The class is designed for state and federal land managers, private preserve managers, and members of cave conservancies.
This workshop will offer the oppor-tunity to connect cave mangers with active cavers. This will ensure that the managers of these resources know about the value of partnerships with cavers and the unique skills and resources that they have to offer.
For this reason, I have incorporated local cavers into the agenda. For more information or to register for this class, please contact me at cmsandeno@fs.fed.us.
