Why wouldn't we qualify? 'Cause I entered some this year? Well shoo I should've waited then, haha. Yeah I wish I would've been able to be there and get advice and jazz. To be fair, I know my photos are shit compared to many out there.

If I make it to Hidden Earth I don't have a shot there either lol...oh gosh my new fav cave photographer...http://www.flickr.com/photos/robbieshone/ i mean like woah

But I like getting ideas and trying to improve =) At least I don't take photos full of halos anymore haha. I just got an old small flash gun for $15 to play around with ^.^ now i just need a cave trip to try it out in.

Hi Derek - enjoyed meeting you briefly in person at convention. We did talk about whether the "novice" category criteria might be styled on the cartography salon, ie includes any photographer who hasn't previously received a ribbon/medal in the salon. Not sure how that will play out, but it's a thought.

As you probably know from attending the critique sesson, after the initial individual score-based judging the top scoring images in each category and overall are considered/discussed collectively by the judges for ribbons and the medal - independent of their original scores. Every category does not necessarily receive a merit or mention, but having a novice category will at least prompt the judges to consider those images separately to decide if one merits a ribbon. I support this idea, but we'll see what happens.

Nice meeting you too Jansen. Thanks for all the time and effort you and the other judges put into the salons. It's extremely valuable.

My photos aren't yet ribbon quality, but I cleaned up in the carto salon. :bananabat:

I saw several nice photos from Kelly in the "photo salon" (i.e. slide show), but I don't believe she entered anything in the "print salon".

I came back with a load last night and I'm headed back up for the last of it today. The tent people are still working on taking that big tent down. What a long strange trip it has been. I was hoping to meet Bill Putman and George Dasher, but there were too many people to say hi to everyone. I did finally meet Cheryl, Even G, NZ, and host of others that frequent here. Hope to see some of you at the next convention.......it should be a good one. :kewl:

I too finally met NZ and Evan. I've known Cheryl for years and met Dan in 2003 in CA. I also met Peter Youngbaer and Stuart Marlatt. Overall, the convention was very good. Just a few "glitches". . . like running out of bread at the banquet. No event is perfect.

Glenn and I enjoyed the impromptu dinner at Vic's Grill with you. If you ever come this way to play, give me a shout out.

Does anyone have a picture of the quilt that got a merit award? It was made by Emily Davis Mobley, and called "A River Runs Through It".
Any opinions are personal.

Hi Forrest. Taking photos of salon artwork is not permitted (other than for official purposes) out of respect for the Artists' Bill of Rights. You might try contacting Emily directly at Speleobooks. And FYI - she dropped the "Mobley" from her name many years ago.
