We're coming by train, so there if there is a speeding ticket--then it is on someone else's head.

I VERY much want to do a bike ride, so it is good to know at least some of the bike trails are open.

We came back through Vail Pass after the 1996 CO Convention, and I rode that bike trail east to Dillon Lake. That was a wild ride, FLYING down the many turns. A cow elk got up and ran next to me for about a mile. She was in heavy brush and I was on the pavement. She was only about 150 feet away and we were neck-and-neck most of the way. I REALLY had to keep an eye on her, but then she turned up a side hollow and left me to myself.

I can't remember how far I rode, but it was certainly a record for distance covered in a short amount of time, as that trail really goes downhill. It was a GREAT ride. It was also very early in the morning, and freezing-ass cold.

I wouldn't put it past the police to pull your train over for speeding......I saw 9 cops on my return trip on the 3rd of July. :yikes:

The bike path runs right next to camp......you are in for a bike riding treat.

Bring warmer clothes this time!!

I am shipping my mountain bike out. I might rent a road bike for a ride, maybe.

OK, I'm dreadfully late, but I've got a biking guide written up for convention. I have emailed one to George. Let me know (send a PM) and I'll email you the PDF.

Is anyone interested in planning a get together of "CaveChatters" to put names with the faces? Maybe at the Campground party or something like that? Just curious.

Today is my last day to prep/pack for the trip. Working the next two days then heading out for the drive. Gonna break up the trip with a couple of nights stops and viewing some points of interest.

I suggested the same idea for one of the previous conventions, and got laughed off the forum.

But yeah, we should totally do it.

Once we get there and get the "lay of the land" so to speak I think a note in the "daily rag" might be a good idea. Of course no one has to show up but getting together might be a fun thing. Since I brought it up I will plan tentatively to name a place to meet just before the Wednesday Campground party :rock band: and put in the request to have it in the "rag". I hoped to connect with Jansen last year in Vermont but never did, mostly due to laziness on my part.

If we meet at the party I'll buy you all a :beer30: at the party. :tonguecheek:

Wasn't it 2005 in Huntsville when Scott McRea made fried baloney sandwiches at the Howdy Party for CaveChat folks? It was great putting faces to names there.

What ever happened to the Cavechat banner idea? Did anyone make one?

Yes, there is a cavechat banner. I recall Cheryl saying it lives at the NSS office. Perhaps somebody could confirm with Stephanie to make sure it's packed with the convention supplies?

Rats, forgot all about this. I think the office has already packed things to be shipped to Convention. I'll write Stephanie and the rest of the staff now to ask them to pack the banners if the shipment hasn't gone. There are two or three. Maybe the staff packed them automatically. Fingers crossed.
