In Vermont or in Colorado?

My registration check for Vermont is written out. Just waiting for my Federal Tax Refund to have the money to cover it.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not much of an "ice cream" person so I didn't know that piece of trivia. I have heard of Ben and Jerry's but I didn't realize they were a Vermont company.

That's awesome!

Maybe they could be persuaded to do a cave/bat themed flavor as a fundraiser for WNS research... :bananabat:

Thanks for the info and the link.

I mailed my registration yesterday. :woohoo:

I'm in on the maple syrup, the microbreweries and the cheese. Glenn and I are looking forward to the convention.

Re: 2010 NSS Convention, Airport help

Postby Anonymous_Coward » May 11, 2010 9:14 am

Could anyone that is New England travel-savvy help me choose an airport to fly into?

I am looking at Burlington, Albany, Manchester, and Boston. I would prefer to avoid Boston-Logan if possible, but will use it if the price is right. I will be renting a car regardless. What do you guys recommend? None of the flights look very cheap from Salt Lake, but Burlington seems to be a little higher.

Any help would be appreciated. Looking forward to the convention!

Hey Andy-

The Essex Junction Amtrak station is 1 mile from the Convention site. The Vermonter stops there daily-

http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentSe ... 7405732511

You could take Amtrak all the way from Newark Airport to the convention site(via Penn Station, NY) for $57 one way.

If you can get to Newark or the NYC airports cheap, and find you way to Penn Station, that'd be the way to go by train.

I was going to tell you to fly Airtran into Burlington- but they don't go there anymore.

Burlington is 10 minutes from the convention site, and car rentals are available there. While it may cost a little more to get to the Burlington airport, you'll save on time and gas money from any of the others. Albany is about 3 1/2 hours away; Manchester is about 3; Boston is about 4.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't considered the Amtrak option, I'll look into that.

I will have plenty of time for driving from a further airport, but will need to weigh the gas money against airfare. I have been considering flying into and driving up from Albany, as NY is one of the six U.S. states I haven't been to yet!

Andy,

I screwed up and am flying into Albany  so will be driving up to Essex, but tried exchanging my flight to Burlington, but no help from United, thank you much. If you need a ride, we might be able to coordinate, but would need your time, etc. As Peter wrote, it's only 3.5 hours, but...my schedule will not be seeing much, except for blackness, I do believe. In other words, early flight out after the Awards Dinner, so will be leaving for Albany afterward.

Andy:

A couple of other options to explore ate Lebanon, NH, about an hour and a half plus from Burlington but limited service. More likely Bradley in Northern CT (Code BDL) it's almost a 4 hour drive but all good interstate the whole way and the flight selections are a lot better without the Boston/New York traffic issues.
