Silent Splendor, Colorado + Pictures

Postby Bobatnathrop » Jan 9, 2006 4:29 pm

Hey,

I guess this is the right forum for these, since they dont fit under "Photography: Techs and Equipment." These are from our last trip into Silent Splendor in Cave of the Winds, Colorado, and I just thought I would share. Sorry for the couple that are out of focus, it was my first time ever useing a camera underground, and my first time with a digital. Also, sorry for the wide pictures, I thought I resized them enough, but I guess I was wrong.

Very nice. Are these ice, calcite, or a mix of both?

Nice pics, Bob.

Can I offer a suggestion for anyone wishing to post large images in the forum?
Please use the "thumbnail" feature on Imagebucket (the link attached to the
"Upload Image" button at the top). That way, you post a small image that is
linked to the larger one. Some people are on dial-up and this makes the page
load faster, plus doesn't mess with the formatting of the thread (any posts AFTER
a large image stretch the length of the image and it's a pain to have to scroll
to read them).

When you upload the image to Photobucket, you'll see a bunch of links. Copy
and paste the one that says: Thumbnail for forums (1) NOT the actual
URL of the image.

Here's what it ends up looking like if you past the Thumbnail for forums (1)
code in a post here:

Image

(It hit HARD carriage returns on my post in order to keep it from stretching
the length of the image.

Sorry about that , Wayne. I will remember that for next time.

Um they are calcite and aragonite. There were beaded helectites and directional aragonite in there too.

Very Nice!
When facts are few and far between, hypothesis defies all logic, as to how an individual came to the conclusion, that the point that they are trying to make, is indeed true and not just the fabrications of a deluded mind.

What's the orientation in the first picture? Is the pipe horizontal or vertical? Is that mud that it's in?

It is horizontal, with a slight down angle. And yes, that is mud. The mud is so thick and sticky in there if you stand in one place for a while it is hard to get your feet out of it.

Cavers interested in visiting Silent Splendor in the Cave of the Winds should contact the Society's Williams Canyon Project. There are usually several trips each year to this pristine passage, and project trip leaders will often schedule trips specifically for out os state cavers.

By the way, 2006 marks the Cave of the Winds' 125th anniversary as a commercial show cave. The management is planning lots of special events during the year to mark the anniversary.

I know perfectly well where the "Edit" button is. :tonguecheek:

Seeings as I have 24K, I have much better things to do than get them off of my CD, take down the quality, upload them again, and go through and change all the links. Even with 24K those pictures dont take any time at all to load, and I dont mind scrolling over an inch or two if I have to.

Next time I will just make sure I get them down to the right size so that they will fit the screen.
