Save your copies of the NSS MEMBERS MANUAL.
In a mind-boggling move that eliminates the second most tangible or most valuable NSS benefit to members (behind copies of the NSS NEWS), the NSS BOG voted 12-4 to terminate the Members Manual. Members lost a handy link to the nationwide caving community. Speleo-DIGEST is gone. Hard copies of the JOURNAL OF CAVE AND KARST STUDIES are gone. Mailed notices that dues payments are required are gone. Now, MEMBERS MANUAL is gone. Congratulations to the BOG on its misguided efforts to save money and paper while suffocating communications amongst the Society’s far-flung membership.

That is sad, how is membership though, hopefully thry spend on advertising.

I left the NSS when they stated they were no longer interested in keeping older cavers. That's when this older caver decided I was no longer interested in keeping the NSS.
The NSS lost a third of it's members during the WNS debacle and then continued to spend money like it grows on trees. Seems I made the right decision to leave. Nowadays NSS members seem to get next to nothing for their dues other than smart alec uppity ups telling everyone what not to do while they go out and do what they have told others no to do. What a shame it has come to this.

Absolutely no questions that one of the MAJOR benefits to being a NSS member has ALWAYS been the Member's Manual; have used it hundreds if not thousands of times over the years to arrange cave trips, make phone calls, swap emails, handle grotto business, etc. Plain and simple, this is a stupid decision that will just continue the alienation of members we have seen over the past several years.

Anyone have a copy of a previous years Member Manual? As a new member of NSS this definitely seems like an unacceptable decision to remove a valuable resource such as the Members manual. Also unfortunate to read about the major drop in membership so definitely will have to help build that back up / build NSS back up! (including bringing back in some of the old timers who should still be able to enjoy the caves...even if its just in photo/video/3D recreated form).
