Craters of the Moon

Postby KeyserSoze » Jun 26, 2019 8:43 pm

I'm going to be visiting Craters of the Moon this summer and I plan on visiting the lava tubes there. Does anybody know where I could get more information about the caves such as maps and descriptions? Also, are there any other lava tubes or karst features nearby that you would recommend to a caver?

It's been several years but I do know they required a permit, free, at Craters. Check out Bunnell's book on Lava Tubes.

I went to COTM back in August 2000 and tried to explore 1 or 2 of the caves. They were "closed" and had signs saying to keep out, located about 200 feet inside of them. Maybe things are different now, or perhaps there are other caves that are open.
