Thorough or Variety? (POLL)

Postby msharitt » Sep 10, 2015 4:08 pm

Hello fellow cavers,

I just wanted to know the style of cavers we have here. I know there are surveyors and explorers and so on. But which would you rather do?

Do you go to the same cave every weekend until you know it like the back of your hand? Or do you prefer to go to a different cave every weekend even if you don't see it all?

I personally want to go see multiple ones. Unless I fully know I missed something, or didn't make it where I was planned. I will only go there and then I'll put it into rotation and I'll get back to it someday. There are just so many thousand in my area (TAG) that I want to see a little of all of them. There are plenty I've seen all of but overall I want to see the high points and go on. Some more than others.

This may not be a hot poll, I was just curious.

I like to do both. Revisiting a cave often leads to new observations, and sometimes even new passage!

Depends for me. On project caves I like to really get to know the cave, find the leads, see the things that fast moving tourist groups pass by. But if I'm in a new area or in a fully explored cave then I like to see what's recommended by those who have gone before.

I was thinking it would be a little of both. I know sometimes I sit and read all the guidebooks on a cave and talk to others about them and I feel like I've been there.

Other times I just find one and go and I have to know every square inch.

I have my favorites that I can't get enough of, but I also like variety too.
Mixed bag I guess.
