The caviest cave in the USA?

Postby tmazanec1 » Sep 4, 2015 8:17 am

I plan to go to Seneca Caverns with my cousin and his wife today, as part of a Labor Day weekend mini-vacation.
I'll let you know if it lives up to its billing...I have been to a few caves in the USA and my cousin has been to Mammoth itself, so we will see if it measures up to its advertising hype.

It was a bit challenging...my cousin said it was harder than the Intermediate level tour they took of Mammoth, but I did fine.
There were only a few soda straw stalactites on one small section, and they were only a couple centimeters long...the guide said they had been vandalized 85 years ago and had only grown back that much.
The stairs were all natural stones, no carving of the floor.
They stand by their motto, but it should be "The caviest fracture cave in the USA".

Happy 10 year anniversary to cavechat "tmazanec1" !!! Next time you're in that neck of the woods, check out Smoke Hole caverns. Let us know if you think it's any more cavier.

What a coincidence that I happened to be at Seneca Caverns on the same day as you on Friday, September 4th, 2015.
