What to do about a cave map and location listed online.

Hello,

I have been an NSS member for a few years now. I have always heard that cave locations should not be listed online. At least private ones. I think I found info listed about a cave that should not be posted. A friend told me it was online. Should I do anything about it? Is this kind of thing supposed to be reported? Any suggestions?

What's the current state of the cave? How many people have been visiting it? How long has the location been public? Any accidents listed in the ACA journals? What are caves are in the area? Is it horizontal, Vertical, both? How close is it to, or does it lay on private property?

I've seen caves pinpointed on USGS topo maps.

*We* are the cave location police! :woohoo:

But this has long been a worry as the digital age develops. As others have mentioned, a few caves are on topo maps and have been for decades. I wouldn't worry about those. You could contact the land owner/manager to see if they are concerned about it. And of course, if it's some yahoo, you could politely try to educate them.

I guess it all depends.
