Anybody know the story behind the plaque at the bottom of Neversink? Went out there with a few people after Tumbling Rock to do the pit this past Saturday. No one I was with knew why it was there. Just curious...

LOL At first glance I thought that the thread was "Plague at Neversink." :omg:

Probably just that the pit needs to brush and floss and see the dentist more often. That's usually what causes plaque.

I know, that's terribly corny.

someone told me about the plaque several years ago but I have forgotten now.
Anyone with the SCCi would know though I'm sure.

I've always heard that the guy did not die in the pit, but he loved it so much that after his death his family raised enough money to purchase the bottom of the pit through the SCCi "Buy a Piece of the Pit" fundraiser to help the SCCi pay for it. If memory serves me correctly, they raised something like $10,000.

Interesting. Someone told me it was an out of control rappel.
