What are some good caves in Knoxville?

Postby MrMiner2 » Nov 23, 2012 2:50 pm

Hello everyone! I really enjoy this forum. Been reading if for awhile unregistered, but just now finally made an account.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good caves in Knoxville. I know about the local grottos and have contacted them a while ago with no response. I will try again soon, but was wondering what I could find our on here. Thanks!

The East Tennessee Grotto meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Oak Ridge Civic Center at 7:30pm. The next meeting will be December 5, 2012 at 7:30pm. Go to Grotto meetings if you want to know about caves.

Hopefully someone in the Knoxville area will contact you. Unfortunately I know nothing of that area. Some people will tell you to attend grotto meetings . . . that is a good thing to do but I understand that sometimes a person's personal life and work schedule may make this difficult.

Good luck in you quest.

Hi. I'm the Secretary for the East TN Grotto & would be interested in knowing who/when you contacted someone in ETG w/ no response, as that is quite unusual.

As Mike said, the next East TN Grotto meeting is Wed., Dec.5th at 7:30 at the Oak Ridge Civic Center. It is our annual Christmas party, so there is no program. The grotto is supplying barbeque, and attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. There were 3 grotto trips to area caves in Nov., as well as many other informal ones. The ETG Website: http://www.caves.org/grotto/etg/

ETG's Jan. meeting will be Wed., Jan. 2nd at 7:30 in Cherokee Caverns. The program will be on cave photography, and it's suggested that attendees bring a camp chair or similar. Directions to Cherokee are on their site: http://www.cherokeecaverns.com/Directions___Contact_Us.html

This article recently appeared in the Knoxville paper about ETG: http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/nov/03/east-tennessee-grotto-club-delves-into-caving/

We do discuss recent caving trips at every meeting and plans for future ones. Our trip log is also available there. Should you decide to join, dues are $12/yr. for individuals, or $15/yr. for families. Dues will be collected at the Dec. meeting.

I hope to be able to welcome you at a future ETG meeting!
