I have visited Ellison's cave on multiple occasions. I have been to the Stairstep (Incredible) Entrance one time on a trip with Steve Collins. I remember it being fairly difficult to find. I am going back to Ellisons in a few weekends- can anyone help me with a GPS point on this entrance? (NOTE BY MODERATOR - if anyone is going to help this person please send him a private message. Posting locations on this board is not allowed.)

I have caved in Hawaii for CRF, Mammoth for CRF, extensive sport caving in TAG, many caves in Indiana, etc. over the last 20 years I have been a caver. I can give references if needed.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, Roger. This is the first year I will have to buy a permit. I also heard that camping is no longer allowed at Blue Hole. That's too bad; it's one of my favorite campsites.

Ellison's is one of my all-time favorite caves. My first trip there I was 18 years old and using helical knots and a premier carbide lamp.

My understanding is that you need to buy a pass to visit Pidgin Mtn. The cost is minimal for a 3 day pass- just a headache because you have to go online and buy one.

You can buy a pass at the WalMart in lafayette. Just go to the sporting good checkout.

Based on that sentence, you might imagine that Andrew is an old fart by now. However, in actuality he's still a fairly young guy and was just intentionally using an anachronistic rig that day!

Yeah, it's new. It's Georgia's "GORP" pass and apparently the fine if you get caught without one is preposterous. Georgia has decided they need to monetize all users of their public lands -- hikers, cavers, rock climbers, etc -- beyond the money they already collect from hunters.

So.... you got lucky in September!

Ellison's Cave is located in the Crockford-Pigeon Mountain WMA (correcting spelling from above for sake of happy Googling).

ahh what I meant was I was there in september, but not this year, 2 years ago. I did flowing stone a couple days ago, got the permit online, piece of cake. the $12.50 permit was worth it for our group to see that pit.

Its a pain but its helping to keep some of the idiots out and from trashing the WMA including PettyJohns, Rocktown, and all the campgrounds.
